Huntingtons Disease > Transgenic
The following information is about Transgenic.
Transgenic Defined
An organism that has had DNA from another organism introduced into it. For example, if jellyfish DNA is introduced into a mouse, the mouse is then called a transgenic mouse. Transgenic animals are generated by introducing the outside DNA into the developing embryo and then implanting the embryo into a host mother until the animal is born.

- The Genetic Engineering of Food and the Failure of Science ? Part 2: Academic Capitalism and the Loss of Scientific Integrity: The second part of Don Lotter's critique of transgenic foods. This part focuses on the fundamental shift in academia from "non-prop rietary science for the 'public good' to the 'academic capitalism 9; model based on the 'knowledg e economy'. " He claims that this leads to the "under-fu nding of non-proprietar y agroecological approaches to food production.&qu ot;
- The Genetic Engineering of Food and the Failure of Science ? Part 1: The Development of a Flawed Enterprise: The first part of a critique of transgenic foods by Don Lotter that, while still largely damning, is far less dogmatic than many other critiques that I have read. The author differentiates "food, feed, and fiber crop transgenics&qu ot; from "bacteria l and pharmaceutical crop transgenics,&q uot; while indicting the former and conditionally accepting the later. He claims not to be myopically "pro-orga nic," claiming "future food production should [not] be limited to organic methods as defined by current certification protocols.? He instead supports a food crop production system based on agro-ecologica l engineering, which includes the use of chemical and biological technologies.

- Maize and Biodiversity: The Effects of Transgenic Maize in Mexico: The potential effects of transgenic maize on traditional varieties of maize in Mexico have been a source of public debate for several years. The key concern is gene flow from genetically modified plants?or transgenic corn?to Mexican maize and its wild relatives.
